At least 13 people were injured when a Long Island Rail Road train derailed outside New York City's Queens borough station on Thursday.

All eight passenger train cars derailed just east of the Jamaica Station complex at 175th Street and 95th Avenue around 11:12 a.m, sources in the New York City Fire Department told New York Post.

Those hurt suffered leg and back injuries, sources told the newspaper.

Rescuers went to the spot and carried out the rescue process.

The Long Island Rail Road (LIRR) tweeted: "Earlier today, a train derailed east of Jamaica. We were able to safely evacuate customers from the train, and 10 are now being treated for minor injuries."

New York Governor Kathy Hochul said: "Grateful to the @MTA workers & first responders who quickly responded to this morning’s derailment & are working to restore full service."

She alerted that commuters can expect delays and track changes due to the mishap.
