The driver and assistant driver of a passenger train were injured in an accident in Pakistan's east Punjab province on Monday, Pakistan Railways said in a statement.

The incident happened in Toba Tek Singh district, where a tractor-trolley collided with the train at a railway crossing in the wee hours of the day, the statement said.

The accident disrupted railway traffic till the teams from the department reached the site and cleared the track, the statement added.

Police sources from the district told Xinhua that the train was on its way to the northwestern city of Peshawar from the country's southern port city of Karachi.

The cabin of the train engine derailed following the collision, due to which the drivers sustained injuries, said the sources.
