Pakistan: Abdul Sattar Edhi laid to rest

Karachi, July 9 (IBNS): Pakistan's popular philanthropist and humanitarian Abdul Sattar Edhi was laid to rest in the country's Edhi Village on Saturday, media reports said.

Edhi was 88 when death came.

He passed away after prolonged illness.

"President Mamnoon Hussain, Chief of Army Staff General Raheel Shareef, Chief Minister Punjab Shahbaz Sharif, Chief Minister Qaim Ali Shah and Sindh Governor Ishrat ul Ebad attended the funeral held at the National Stadium," Geo News reported.

Large number of policemen guarded the venue where Edhi wsa laid to rest.

He was the chairman of Edhi Foundation.

Former cricketer-turned-politician Imran Khan tweeted :"Truly saddened to hear of EdhiSahab's passing. He was a noble soul & a great Pakistani. He gave the first big donation to SKMT 26 years ago."

Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif's daughter Maryam Nawaz Sharif ‏said: "PM NS announces State funeral & Pakistan's highest civil award, Nishan-e-Imtiaz for the one &only Edhi Sb. You will be alive in our hearts!"
