Pakistan: Blast outside Police Lines, 8 killed

Lahore, Feb 17 (IBNS): At least eight people were killed in a blast outside Police Lines in the Qila Gujar Sigh area of Pakistan's Karachi city on Tuesday, media reports said.

The deceased included Sub-Inspector Muhammad Yusuf and ASI Waqar Ahmed , reports said.

The blast left many others injured.

IGP Punjab Mushtaq Ahmed Sukhara was quoted as saying by Geo News: "

The attacker was standing near a pole outside Police Lines and detonated his vest."

“There were intelligence reports that suicide attackers may strike in Lahore and other cities of Punjab,” IGP Sukhara added.

He said the police have started investigating the CCTV video.

The police chief of Lahore, Captain (retd) Amin Wains told Geo News that the bombing was a suicide attack.

Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif and President Mamnoon Hussain have condemned the attack.

The Tehreek-i-Taliban Pakistan (TTP) has claimed responsibility for the blast.

The spokesperson for the Jamaatul Ahrar faction of the banned TTP, Ehsanullah Ehsan, told Dawn News that the attack was carried out by the splinter group.
