Pakistan: Gunmen kill policeman guarding anti-polio workers

Peshawar: Unknown gunmen shot dead a policeman who was guarding polio vaccination workers in the Kot Attal Sharif area of Dera Ismail Khan district of Pakistan recently, media reports said on Tuesday.

Unknown miscreants riding on a motorcycle shot dead the police officer assigned to guard polio vaccination workers in the Kot Attal Sharif area of Dera Ismail Khan district of the province, Muhammad Aslam, a senior police official in the area told Xinhua news agency.

The policeman was on his way to perform duties with an anti-polio team when he was attacked, said the official, adding that the attackers fled the scene afterwards, and a search operation is underway to arrest on-the-run culprits.

Incidentally, this was the third attack in two days on Pakistani policemen assigned to protect anti-polio workers in the province.
