Pakistan is witnessing the beginning of another COVID-19 wave: Minister

Islamabad: Federal Minister for Planning, Development and Special Initiatives Asad Umar cautioned countrymen that the fifth wave of the COVID-19 pandemic is starting.

He asked people to wear masks to prevent spread of the virus.

He said Karachi is witnessing a rise in Omicron cases.

"Clear evidence now of a beginning of another covid wave which has been expected for last few weeks. Genome sequencing showing rising proportion of omicron cases particularly in karachi. Remember : wearing a mask is your best protection," he tweeted.

According to government’s data, 64 Omicron cases have been reported in Islamabad and 49 cases in Lahore, The News International reported.

The country is witnessing a rise in Omicron cases especially in Islamabad, Lahore and Karachi.
