Islamabad: A Pakistani minister has said Islamabad has long been the ‘custodian’ of the Taliban.

Pakistan's Interior Minister Sheikh Rashid even admitted the country has given shelter to the insurgent group which would now again rule war-torn Afghanistan after 20 years.

Expressing his views on Hum News programme ‘Breaking Point with Malick’, Sheikh Rashid was quoted as saying by Times Now that Pakistan is a “custodian" of Taliban leaders and it has “taken care of them for long”.

“We are custodians of Taliban leaders. We have taken care of them for long. They got shelter, education and home in Pakistan. We have done everything for them," the Pakistan interior minister said.

On August 15, the Taliban entered Kabul.

President Ashraf Ghani resigned and fled the country to prevent what he described as bloodshed that would occur if militants stormed the city.

Many countries have since started evacuating their citizens and diplomatic personnel from Afghanistan.

Anti-Taliban demonstrations are taking place in different parts of the globe.
