Islamabad, May 7 (IBNS): Condition of Pakistan's interior minister Ahsan Iqbal, who survived an apparent assassination attempt, is satisfactory, media reports said.

He is currently undergoing treatment in a hospital.

Iqbal, who was shot in the arm Sunday evening during a rally in his constituency Narowal, was shifted to the Intensive Care Unit (ICU) after his surgery was completed, reported Geo News.

"My father is now out of danger," Ahmed Iqbal, the minister's son, told Geo News.

He said the minister will be kept under observation for 24 hours in the ICU.

Inspector General of Police (IGP) retired Capt Arif Nawaz told Dawn News that they had arrested a suspect, a 22-year-old man, from the spot in the Kanjroor town of the Shakargarh tehsil, who confessed to opening fire on the minister due to the Khatm-i-Nubuwat issue.

Arif Nawaz said they are investigating into the matter.

PTI chief Imran Khan condemned the attack. He tweeted:  "Strongly condemn attack on Ahsan Iqbal today."
