Pakistan PM meets COAS

"PM Nawaz took the COAS into confidence over the several rounds of talks that the government had held with the Pakistan Tehreek-i-Insaf (PTI) and Pakistan Awami Tehreek (PAT) leadership. Both agreed on the need to resume dialogue in order to end the political deadlock in the country," Dawn News reported quoting sources.

"The premier made it clear that the government had shown flexibility on certain matters during talks with the PTI and PAT leadership, however, he said that certain demands made by the PTI and PAT were against the Constitution.The premier also took the COAS into confidence over registration of First Information Report (FIR) on the Model Town incident and assured him that all government functionaries, including ministers, nominated in the FIR would extend full cooperation," it said.

Demanding Sharif's resignation, Thousands of protesters led by cleric Tahir-ul-Qadri and Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) chief Imran Khan have camped outside the parliament building in Islamabad for the past few days.

Following the order of the government, authorities have registered an FIR against 21 persons, including the prime minister, in connection with the deaths of 11 Pakistan Awami Tehreek (PAT) supporters in a violent clash with police.

"The Punjab police received orders on Thursday to register an FIR against those responsible for the deaths of 11 Pakistan Awami Tehreek (PAT) supporters in a violent clash with police. Sections 419, 148, 234, 302 and 109 of the Code of Criminal Procedure, pertaining to murder, attempt of murder and terrorism, have been included in the FIR," Dawn News reported.
