Pakistan: Raheel Sharif visits Army Liver Transplant Unit

Rawalpindi, Oct 24 (IBNS): Pakistan's Chief of the Army Staff General Raheel Sharif, Chief of Army Staff (COAS) visited Army Liver Transplant Unit (ALTU) on Monday at Rawalpindi.

During the visit, General Raheel Sharif was given detailed briefing about the state of the art medical facilities established at the institute.

Chief of Army Staff visited different departments of the institute and spent time with patients and inquired about their well being.

Appreciating doctors and paramedical staff of the institute, COAS  commended their commitment and dedication for establishing such a facility and best  medical care being extended to the patients.

It is worth mentioning here that Army Liver Transplant Unit (ALTU) is the first Liver Transplant program introduced in Pakistan Armed Forces, 3rd in the country which is being developed as National multi organ Transplant Centre.

260 successful hepato-pancreato-biliary(Liver related) and six successful live liver transplant surgeries have been performed so far in consultation/collaboration with University Hospital Birmingham, UK.

Earlier on arrival at ALTU, COAS was received by Lieutenant General Anwar Ali hyder, Adjutant General Pakistan Army and Major General Tariq Hussian, Commandant Military Hospital.
