Pakistan releases 46 TTP prisoners

Islamabad: The Pakistani government recently released 46 Tehreek-e-Taliban Pakistan (TTP) prisoners with an aim of a permanent ceasefire and peace agreement with the banned terrorist group, media reports said.

Journalist at Radio Free Europe, Daud Khattak, tweeted on the issue and wrote: "Pakistan released 46 #TTP prisoners to continue progress towards a permanent ceasefire and peace agreement with the banned group."

He said Pakistani authorities did not comment on the issue so far.

"#Pakistani authorities have no comment so far, but sources say more #TTP prisoners will be free in the next 3-4 days, including some key members of Swat Taliban or men like Latif Mehsud. #TTP is so far watching and had slowed down its attacks in Pakistan," he wrote.

"Members of the tribal Jirga, who returned from Afghanistan a day before, are going to meet a top security official in Peshawar to brief him on the #TTP talks and the way ahead. Another ceasefire seems to be on the cards if #Pakistan agrees to release a few #TTP bigwigs," the journalist wrote.
