Islamabad: A prominent Pakistani journalist was recently attacked at his residence by unknown men and then taken to a hospital for treatment of his injuries, marking just another instance of attack on press freedom in the country, media reports said.

Earlier, Asad Ali Toor had mentioned in a YouTube video that he had been getting calls from unknown numbers, reports Pakistan Today.

A police official told Dawn that some people came outside Toor’s residence located in an apartment building. A scuffle took place between him and these people who fled from the scene after thrashing him.

Narrating some of the details of the incident, Toor said through video that the attackers had asked him about the source of his funds, Dawn News reported.

Information Minister Fawad Chaudhry took notice of the incident and ordered the Islamabad police chief to probe the matter, the newspaper reported.

Pakistan's  Human Rights Commission of Pakistan (HRCP) condemned the attack and tweeted, " HRCP strongly condemns the brutal assault on journalist
