Pakistan's new PM Imran Khan to address nation tomorrow
Islamabad, Aug 18 (IBNS): Pakistan's new PM Imran Khan will address the nation on Sunday, media reports said on Saturday.
Prime Minister Imran Khan will address the nation tomorrow, sources informed Geo News on Saturday.
PM Imran will make a decision regarding the federal cabinet today and the new ministers will be sworn-in on Sunday, sources told the news channel.
"The cabinet will comprise 18 ministers and five advisers," sources added.
Speaking to Geo News, Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) spokesperson Fawad Chaudhry confirmed that PM Imran wants the federal cabinet to take oath on Sunday.
Cricketer-turned-politician and Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) head Imran Khan took oath as the new Prime Minister of Pakistan on Saturday.
Khan's party secured the highest votes in last month's disputed general election and he himself managed to secure more votes than his opponents at the country's National Assembly on Friday.
Khan won 176 votes as opposed to his opponent, Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) president Shahbaz Sharif, who received 96 votes.
Opponents had alleged that the July election was rigged. A number of candidates from different parties too died in attacks ahead of the polls.
The new Prime Minister said that his main aim is to provide a boost to the failing economy of the country.
Khan has also promised to hold corrupt lawmakers to account and punish them for looting the country.
"First of all, we will start strict accountability. I promise to my God that everyone who looted this country will be made accountable," he said.
"I did not climb on any dictator's shoulders; I reached this place after struggling for 22 years."
The new Prime Minister of Pakistan is also a sporting icon in the nation. In 1992, Khan had successfully led his country to a famous world cup win in Cricket. Following which he retired and joined active politics a few years later.
