Washington, Jan 22 (IBNS): Even as protesters took to street to to vent anger against US President Donald Trump, the latter said that it's a hallmark of American democracy.

In a tweet, Trump said, "Peaceful protests are a hallmark of our democracy. Even if I don't always agree, I recognize the rights of people to express their views."

Millions took to streets to protest Trump's ascension as the US President, as he took oath on Jan 20, following his win over Hillary Clinton on Nov 8.

In an earlier tweet, the US President questioned the legitimacy of the protestors, suggesting that they had not taken part in the elections.

"Watched protests yesterday but was under the impression that we just had an election! Why didn't these people vote? Celebs hurt cause badly," his tweet read.
