Police storm prison in west France after inmate stabs guards

Paris, Mar 5 (Sputnik/UNI): French special police forces on Tuesday stormed a visiting room in a prison after a possibly radicalized inmate stabbed two guards and barricaded inside, local media said.

The man obtained a ceramic knife during a visit by his relatives at Conde-sur-Sarthe prison, assaulted the guards and locked himself in the room with his wife, France Info reported.

The prisoner, identified as 27-year-old Jean-Michel Clain, reportedly shouted he acted in the name of the Islamic State terrorist group (IS, banned in Russia) and would not give in.

French Justice Minister Nicole Belloubet said that "the terrorist nature of this attack leaves no doubt."

She said Clain was jailed for a civil law crime and was flagged for possible radicalization.
