Vatican City/IBNS: Pope Francis is scheduled to leave the hospital and be released on Saturday, confirmed the Vatican.

The Vatican stated that the decision for Pope Francis to go back to his residence at Santa Marta was contingent on the outcome of the final tests conducted on Friday morning.

The Pope had been hospitalized at Gemelli Hospital in Rome on Wednesday due to difficulties with his breathing.

After being diagnosed with bronchitis and responding well to antibiotics, the 86-year-old Pope enjoyed some pizza with medical staff on Thursday evening, as per a statement.

On Friday morning, he read some newspapers and resumed his work after having breakfast.

World leaders have also expressed their closeness to the Pope, including the President of Italy, Sergio Mattarella, who offered his "most intense and affectionate wishes to Pope Francis, with the wish for a full recovery in health."

India's Prime Minister, Narendra Modi, said on Twitter, he is "praying for the good health and speedy recovery of Pope Francis."

Due to the busy schedule during Easter week, the Pope's hospitalization occurred at a crucial time.

However, the Vatican has announced that the Pope is anticipated to attend Palm Sunday Mass in St. Peter's Square this weekend.
