Portugal wildfire leaves 41 dead and many injured, fans political blame too

Lisbon, Oct 18 (IBNS): Rain and a decline in wind speed helped firefighters in Portugal and Spain to tame the deadly wild fire raging through parts of both countries, according to media reports on Wednesday.

Local media reported that 41 people in Portugal and four in northern Spain died in the wildfire that broke out during the weekend.

According to weather reports, strong winds from hurricane Ophelia fanned hundreds of blazes across Portugal and northern Spain.

Portugal's famous footballer Cristiano Ronaldo express his concern about the victims of the wildfire.

Portugal has declared a three-day mourning over the tragedy, media reported.

Meanwhile, a Portuguese opposition party, the CDS-PP, launched a motion of no-confidence in the Socialist government on Tuesday over its failure to prevent the loss of human lives in this week’s lethal wildfires, the second such disaster in four months, reported Hindustan Times.
