Islamabad, May 4 (IBNS) Chief of Army Staff (COAS) General Raheel Sharif on Wednesday ordered an inquiry into the death of Mutahida Qaumi Movement worker Aftab Ahmed .

The party has claimed that Ahmed was killed in Rangers’ custody.

" COAS has directed to hold an inquiry to find out truth  in the case of  Aftab Ahmed, who died in Karachi yesterday. He instructed to ensure that justice must be done," the Inter-Services Public Relations said in a statement.

Law enforcement personnel had detained Aftab Ahmed on Sunday.

"He was among seven suspects presented before a judge of the anti-terrorism court on Monday by the paramilitary Rangers force," Geo News reported.

The Ranger lawyer told the court that the suspects were involved in the target-killing of over 40 people.

Following the hearing, the court granted the Rangers' request for a 90-day preventive detention.

Ahmed was taken to Jinnah Hospital on Tuesday where he was announced dead.
