Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov to take part in the virtual meeting of BRICS

New Delhi: Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov will take part in a stand-alone meeting of BRICS Ministers of Foreign Affairs/International Relations via video conference on June 1, officials said.

The sides will exchange views on topical issues of international agenda, including regional conflicts, strengthening of international institutions, countering new challenges and threats, including COVID-19, as well as cooperation between the BRICS countries in the multilateral fora, read a statement issued by the Russian Embassy in India.

They are expected to review the status of and prospects for the five-parties’ cooperation during this year of India’s BRICS Chairship in three main areas – policy and security, economy and finance, culture and humanitarian contacts.

"We support the priorities of the Indian BRICS Chairship under the motto 'BRICS@15: Intra BRICS Cooperation for Continuity, Consolidation and Consensus' which include strengthening the multilateral system, counter terrorism cooperation, using digital and technological solutions to achieve

Sustainable Development Goals, as well as enhancing cultural and humanitarian contacts. We share the Chairship’s commitment to develop cooperation in healthcare and boost the role of women in the economy," read the statement.
          
In the run-up to the Ministerial Meeting, a traditional Meeting of BRICS Sherpas/ Sous-sherpas will also take place.
