Riyadh, Jan 23 (IBNS) Saudi Arabia's King Abdullah has died on Friday, reports said.

He was 90.

"King Abdullah, who was said to be aged about 90, had been in hospital for several weeks suffering from a lung infection," BBC reported.

His brother Prince Salman has been named the new Saudi king, reports said.

Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi has condoled the death of the King and said in a statement: "In King Abdullah, we have lost an important voice who left a lasting impact on his country. I condole his demise.

"Our thoughts are with the people of Saudi Arabia, who have lost a guiding force in King Abdullah, during this hour of grief," he said.

"A few days ago I spoke to Crown Prince Salman and enquired about King Abdullah`s health. News of King Abdullah`s passing away is saddening," the Prime Minister said.
