New York, Dec 15(Just Earth News): The United Nations Security Council will on Friday hold a ministerial-level meeting on the threat and challenges posed by the Democratic People's Republic of Korea (DPRK) to international peace and security.

The briefing, organized by Japan, which holds the presidency of the 15-member Council for the month of December, is expected to focus on DPRK's nuclear and missile development programmes; other weapons of mass destruction, such as chemical and biological weapons; and other related threats and challenges.

It is also expected to discuss ways and means to maximize pressure to change the course of the country's action towards the denuclearization of the Korean peninsula, including the full implementation of relevant Security Council resolutions as well as additional sanction measures in response to further provocations.

The meeting is scheduled to start at 10:00 AM EST.
