Dhaka, Bangladesh, Feb 3 (IBNS) At least seven passengers were killed and 16 injured when miscreants threw crude fire bombs on a bus in what is said to be a political attack on a national highway in Comilla district of Bangladesh on Tuesday.

Reports said packed with passengers, the bus was going to Dhaka from the port city of Cox's Bazar. The site of the incident is 90 km east off Dhaka.

The bus caught fire causing the casualties. The injured have been hospitalized, mostly for burns.

According to police, the attack was carried out by the opposition political parties, currently laying a virtual siege on the country with nationwide transportation blockades and bloody clashes.

Led by the  Bangladesh Nationalist Party (BNP), the opposition block has been demanding ouster of the Sheikh Hasina government.

Tuesday was the last day of a 72-hour nationwide general strike, called by the opposition.
