A Bangladeshi imam has been arrested in New York over allegations of child sexual assault at a mosque, according to media reports.

The allegations relate to two separate incidents said to have taken place at Masjid Bilal on April 21 and April 27, as reported by bdnews24.com.

The accused has been identified as 65-year-old Tajul Islam. He was arrested and later released on bail.

According to the report, he has been charged with four counts of first-degree sexual abuse, four counts of forcible touching, and four counts of endangering the welfare of a child.

It is alleged that Tajul Islam inappropriately touched a 10-year-old child inside the mosque on April 21.

A similar allegation was made again in connection with an incident on April 27.

Following his arrest, Queens Criminal Court granted him bail set at a $25,000 bond. The court has also directed him to stay away from the children involved.
