Shocking antisemitic attack: Jewish volunteer ambulances set ablaze near north London Synagogue

At least four ambulances belonging to the Jewish Community Ambulance service were set on fire outside a synagogue in north London, UK, on Monday.

"Officers remain on scene and the arson attack is being treated as an antisemitic hate crime," the Metropolitan Police said in a statement.

Dozens of firefighters rushed to the scene to bring the flames under control that had lit up the sky over Golders Green.

The police said nearby houses have been evacuated as a precaution, and road closures remain in place.

No injuries were reported in the incident.

Security camera footage shared with CNN showed three masked people approach an ambulance belonging to the Hatzola Northwest organization and set it on fire.

Police said the explosion heard from the scene was perhaps linked to gas cannisters onboard the ambulances.

No arrests have been made so far.

Superintendent Sarah Jackson, who leads policing in the local area said: “We know this incident will cause a great deal of community concern and officers remain on scene to carry out urgent enquiries. We are in the process of examining CCTV and are aware of online footage. We believe we are looking for three suspects at this early stage."

“There have been no arrests yet, and we would urge anyone with information to please contact us as soon as possible - you can do so anonymously if you wish," Jackson said.

What is  Hatzola?

Hatzola is a non-profit, volunteer organisation established in 1979 to provide pre-hospital emergency medical response and transportation at no cost, to the North London community.

Golders Green

Golders Green has a significant Jewish population since 1979. It is home to many synagogues, schools and kosher restaurants.

Hatzola Northwest Chairman Shloimie Richman told CNN, "Obviously we have concerns that this is a direct attack on the Jewish community."
