Napa, California, Aug 24 (IBNS): Several people were injured as an earthquake measuring 6.0 on the Richter scale rocked Northern California early Sunday.

The epicentre of the earthquake, which hit at around 3:30 a.m. local time, was located at 38.215 degree north and 122.318 degree west, the U.S. Geological Survey (USGS) website said.

"In Napa, at least 90 people were injured, three critically, including a young child, according to Queen of the Valley Hospital spokeswoman Vanessa deGier," CNN reported.

The majority of injuries that we are seeing are non-life-threatening, but still serious," deGier told CNN.

Sunday's earthquake is reportedly the strongest to hit the Bay Area since 1989.

According to reports, at least 10,000 households were without power in Napa following the earthquake.

California Governor Jerry Brown has declared a state of emergency.
