Khartoum/Sudan: Sudan's war in Khartoum continues to escalate, now entering its third month, as the reported death count reaches over 2,000.

The conflict involves the regular army led by Abdel Fattah al-Burhan and the paramilitary Rapid Support Forces (RSF) commanded by his former deputy, Mohamed Hamdan Daglo.

The ongoing fighting has forced 2.2 million people to flee their homes, including 528,000 who have sought refuge in neighboring countries, according to the International Organization for Migration.

The violence recently claimed the life of Governor Khamis Abdullah Abakar in West Darfur state, with the United Nations attributing the act to Arab militias and the RSF.

The situation in Darfur is rapidly deteriorating into a humanitarian calamity, prompting concerns from UN aid chief Martin Griffiths. Efforts at mediation have stalled, and the region is in desperate need of international aid and attention.
