Tel Aviv blast leaves one dead, investigation ongoing

Police are investigating the explosion which killed a person and left another injured in Tel Aviv city of Israel on Sunday.

The unidentified person who died is believed to have been carrying the explosive material, District Commander Peretz Amar was quoted as saying by CNN.

The injured person was hurt after he was hit by shrapnel in the lower body.

He was rushed to a hospital for treatment.

The blast occurred amid rising tension in the region over the ongoing Gaza war.

Speaking to reporters on location, Tel Aviv Police District Commander Peretz Amar The Times of Israel that the identity of the dead man held the key to the motive.

“It is difficult to identify the body,” said Amar. “We know that he is not an innocent civilian, but somebody who was carrying an explosive device.”
