A man shot dead five people and then killed himself in a mass shooting incident in Bangkok's Or Tor Kor market on Monday.

The gunman was found dead on a bench inside the market.

He was reportedly wearing a black t-shirt and camouflage shorts.

Police recovered an ID card and a driving licence identifying the deceased as a 61-year-old man from Khong district, Nakhon Ratchasima. The name on the cards is Noi Praidaen, reported Bangkok Post.

Rescue workers have confirmed to the newspaper that four market security guards and a woman vendor were killed by the attacker.

Two other women were injured in the incident.

Police have begun investigating the incident.

The Or Tor Kor market is a popular destination in Bangkok, which is also known to attract a large number of tourists.

It is known for selling fresh fruits and seafood.

Mass shooting incidents are not common in Thailand.
