Thailand prepares to bid final goodbye to King Bhumibol

New Delhi/Bangkok, Oct 14 (IBNS): President of India Pranab Mukherjee has condoled the passing away of His Majesty King Bhumibol Adulyadej of Thailand, a message from the President's Secretariat said on Friday.

King Bhumibol Adulyadej of Thailand, the world's longest reigning monarch in the world, passed away on Thursday, at the age of 88.

President Pranab Mukherjee tweeted, “Heartfelt condolences on the sad demise of His Majesty King Bhumibol Adulyadej of Thailand. People of India share the sorrow and grief of the people of Thailand."

Tweeted Prime Minister Narendra Modi, "People of India and I join the people of Thailand in grieving the loss of one of the tallest leaders of our times, King Bhumibol Adulyadej."

People in Bangkok dress in black and white on Friday for the mourning/Sudipto MukherjeeThe late king's body will be carried from Bangkok's Siriraj Hospital to the Grand Palace in a motorade procession led by the country's much revered monk Somdej Phrawannarat, a much-revered monk, followed by the Crown Prince Maha Vajiralongkorn.

Thousands clad in black are lining the streets of Bangkok for the king's funeral procession, as his body is moved to a temple in the Grand Palace, reported the BBC

The government has declared a year-long official mourning period.

Bhumibol Adulyadej was born in Cambridge in the US state of Massachusetts on December 5, 1927, as his father, Prince Mahidol Adulyadej, was studying at Harvard.

He ascended the throne in 1946, at the age of 18 years, after the reigning monarch, his brother Ananda, died in an accident.
