Thousands rally in Rome to defend Italy's constitution

Rome/IBNS: Thousands of Italians converged in the heart of Rome on Saturday to participate in a demonstration organized by the Italian General Confederation of Labour (CGIL), the country's foremost national trade union.

The rally was staged in defense of Italy's constitution, with a diverse range of participants from across the nation.

Under the banner of safeguarding the constitution, the event saw a procession of several thousand people, dressed in red, marching from Piazza della Repubblica near the central railway station to Piazza San Giovanni in Laterano, making a powerful statement of unity.

The demonstration was orchestrated by a coalition of trade unions, left-wing political groups, and public organizations that oppose Italy's involvement in armed conflicts and the escalation of military expenditures.

Throughout the march, demonstrators proudly displayed banners and placards addressing various pressing political and social issues, including poverty, labor rights, and conflicts both domestically and abroad.

Among the key demands voiced by CGIL and other participating unions were concrete measures to tackle insecurity, wage and pension increases, and enhanced government investments in healthcare and environmental protection.

Organizers had initially set an ambitious target of gathering 100,000 demonstrators in the center of Rome, demonstrating the widespread support for the causes championed at the rally.
