A train collision close to Qila Sattar Shah Station in Punjab’s Sheikhupura district of Pakistan on Sunday left at least 31 people hurt, media reports said.

Sources told The News International that the Lahore-bound passenger train — coming from Mianwali — was travelling on the same track where a freight train was already present, resulting in a crash.

The train driver reportedly tried to avert the accident but to no avail.

Rescue operation is still underway.

An investigation to know the cause of the accident has been launched.

A railways spokesperson told The News International in a statement that train operations are running smoothly in the Lahore division following the crash.
