Trump expects to be arrested on Tuesday, calls for protest: Report

| @indiablooms | Mar 19, 2023, at 04:11 am

New York: Former US President Donald Trump has urged his supporters to protest if he gets arrested, as he expects to be taken into custody on Tuesday in connection with hush money allegedly paid to a porn star before the 2016 election, AFP reported.

He referred to a "leak" from the Manhattan district attorney's office in a post on his Truth Social platform on Saturday morning: "Leading Republican candidate & former President of the United States of America will be arrested on Tuesday of next week. Protest, take our nation back!" he wrote.

The investigation is focused on a payment of $130,000 made a few weeks before the 2016 election to prevent Stephanie Clifford, better known as Stormy Daniels, from publicly discussing an alleged affair she had with Donald Trump many years ago.

Prosecutors are considering whether to bring formal charges against Trump in the case, the report said.

If the Manhattan district attorney indicts trump, the 76-year-old would become the first US president to be charged with a crime.

On Friday evening, Trump’s counsel told CNBC that if his client was indicted by a grand jury in Manhattan, he would turn himself in to face the criminal charges.

Trump has denied having an affair with Daniels and in his post written in capital letters, he referred to "illegal leaks from a corrupt & highly political Manhattan district attorney's office."
