Trump scoffs at Iran’s 14-point peace plan, warns strikes could resume if Tehran 'misbehaves'
US President Donald Trump on Saturday said he would review Iran’s new 14-point peace proposal but openly doubted it would be acceptable, saying Tehran had not yet “paid a big enough price” for its actions over the last 47 years.
In a post on Truth Social, Trump wrote that he would soon examine the plan sent by Iran, but added he “cannot imagine” agreeing to it.
Fresh strike threat
Speaking briefly to reporters in Florida, Trump also warned that military strikes on Iran could resume if the country “misbehaves.”
“If they misbehave, if they do something bad… it’s a possibility that could happen, certainly,” he said, without elaborating on what actions might trigger renewed attacks.
War on pause since April
The conflict involving the United States, Israel and Iran has reportedly been paused since April 8 after one unsuccessful round of talks in Pakistan.
Iran has now submitted a revised 14-point proposal through Pakistan, reportedly calling for an end to fighting on all fronts and a new framework governing the vital Strait of Hormuz.
Trump: Deal or 'finish them'
Trump had earlier rejected a previous Iranian offer, saying he was “not satisfied.”
“At this moment, I'm not satisfied with what they're offering. Do we want to go and just blast the hell out of them and finish them forever — or do we want to try and make a deal?” he said, adding he would prefer diplomacy “on a human basis.”
Iran fires back
Senior Iranian commander Mohammad Jafar Asadi reportedly said Tehran was fully prepared for any renewed confrontation.
“The armed forces are fully prepared for any new adventures or foolishness from the Americans,” he said.
Iran’s Deputy Foreign Minister Kazem Gharibabadi added: “The ball is in the United States’ court to choose diplomacy or continue a confrontational approach.”
He said Iran was prepared for either path.
