Trump threatens bombing if Iran fails to reach an agreement over its nuclear programme

US President Donald Trump on Sunday warned he might order military strikes against Iran if Tehran fails to reach an agreement with Washington DC over its nuclear programme.

“If they don’t make a deal,” Trump told NBC News about Iran, “there will be bombing. It will be bombing the likes of which they have never seen before.”

U.S. and Iranian officials are “talking,” Trump said.

Iran Rejects Direct Negotiations

President Masoud Pezeshkian, meanwhile, said the US has been informed that his nation is ready for indirect negotiations.

He said the course of the negotiation will depend on the US's behaviour.

Pezeshkian said on Sunday that Iran had written in its response to a letter by U.S. President Donald Trump that the country has never shied away from negotiations, and it is only the broken promises of the other side that have damaged trust, which must be restored, reported IRNA news agency.

“While the response rules out the possibility of direct talks between the two sides, it says that the door remains open to indirect negotiations,” the president said during a cabinet meeting as quoted by IRNA.

“It’s the behavior of the Americans that will determine the continuation of the negotiation process,” he said.

During his previous term as the President of the USA, Trump had withdrawn from the 2018 deal between Iran and world powers.

The agreement had imposed strict restrictions on Iran's nuclear programme.

Tension between Iran and the USA has increased since 2018.
