Dubai, Feb 27 (Xinhua): The United Arab Emirates (UAE) will donate 500 million dollars to Yemen in 2019, a UAE minister said at a conference called "Humanitarian Response Plan for Yemen," which is organized by the United Nations.

The UAE Minister of State for International Cooperation Reem Ebrahim Al Hashimy said Wednesday that "we are committed to rebuilding the Yemeni economy and recovering the society in Yemen."

The conference hopes to drum up 4 billion dollars for Yemen, a war-battered country facing the world's worst humanitarian crisis.

"With the first signs of hope to achieve sustainable peace, let's work together toward achievement of prosperity for the people of Yemen," she added.

Some 24 million Yemenis, or 80 percent of the population, are in need for aid, according to the World Health Organization (WHO).

Saudi Arabia also announced a donation of 500 million dollars.
