London/UNI/Sputnik: London's Metropolitan Police cordoned off several bridges because of an unattended item in the vicinity of South Bank on Tuesday.

"A number of bridges in central London have been closed as a precaution while officers assess an unattended item in the vicinity of South Bank," the police tweeted.

Among the closed bridges are Westminster Bridge, Waterloo Bridge, Hungerford and Golden Jubilee footbridges.

Later, the police said the unattended item was found not to be suspicious and that roads were reopened.
