Unidentified men put 'hijab' on female statue at Dhaka University

A group of unidentified men wrapped a black cloth around a female statue of the Raju Memorial Sculpture at Dhaka University in Bangladesh as if the figure was wearing a hijab.

A group of students soon removed the hijab after noticing it.

Witnesses reported seeing several masked men arrive on motorcycles, place the cloth around the figure, and then leave the scene, reported The Daily Star.

The university administration has decided to form a committee to investigate the incident, Saifuddin Ahmed, proctor of Dhaka University told the Bangladeshi newspaper.

A proctorial team was sent to the site following the report, but the students had already removed the hijab by the time they arrived, he added.

Bangladesh witnessed a political change in recent times when former PM Sheikh Hasina was forced to leave the country amid severe protests against her government.

Hasina was the longest-serving PM of the nation.

She returned to power recently in January after winning the elections.
