US delays approval of Pakistan's ambassador designate Masood Khan

Islamabad: The United States has delayed the approval of Pakistan’s ambassador-designate Masood Khan’s posting in Washington, media reports said.

Sources told The Nation that the US State Department had sought more time for accepting Masood Khan as Pakistan’s ambassador to Washington and conveyed it to the Foreign Office in Islamabad.

"The State Department has not rejected ambassador-designate Masood Khan’s nomination, however, it has sought more time for his clearance," a source told The Nation.

Meanwhile, as a result of this delay, the Foreign Office has directed Pakistan’s Ambassador to the United States, Asad Majeed Khan.

Asad Majeed Khan was appointed as Pakistani Ambassador to the US on January 11, 2019 for a three-year term, which expired on January 11, 2022, the newspaper reported.
