Viral video shows Macron shoved in face by wife, French President says they were 'joking'

A video has gone viral on social media where the French First Lady was caught on camera shoving her husband, Emmanuel Macron, in the face after they arrived in Vietnam's capital, Hanoi, for an official visit.

The video showed Macron appearing inside the door of his aircraft shortly after touching down in the northern Vietnamese city late on Sunday, reported ABC News.

Though not visible, a hand and arm could be seen appearing to shove the president's face.

Macron seemed to be startled by the incident, soon turned towards the gate of the aeroplane and waved those present at the airport to welcome him.

His wife Brigette, who was wearing a red dress, appeared and walked down the aeroplane with Macron.

Macron Reacts

Meanwhile, Macron reacted to the video after it went viral and said he was 'joking and teasing' his wife when they were caught on camera.

“There’s a video showing me joking and teasing my wife and somehow that becomes a sort of geo-planetary catastrophe, with people even coming up with theories to explain it,” the President was quoted as saying by CNN.

“The videos are all real, and yes, sometimes people tamper with them, but people are attributing all kinds of nonsense to them," he said.
