Wadh tension: BNP-M leaders demonstrated in Pakistan's Balochistan region

Hundreds of Balochistan National Party-Mengal (BNP-M) members and supporters recently demonstrated in different parts of Balochistan to express concern over the tense situation in Wadh.

Party supporters assembled outside the Quetta Press Club, brandishing party flags, signs, and banners displaying their demands and expressing concerns about the Wadh situation. Earlier, they marched along various streets in Quetta, reports Dawn News.

Leading the protest march was BNP-M’s Secretary General, Waja Jahanzeb Baloch, along with former federal minister Agha Hassan Baloch, Ghulam Nabi Marri, and other leaders. The participants criticised the government and the local administration in Khuzdar.

The leaders of the party held the government responsible for failing to respond to the actions of the armed forces, which had led to the displacement of families.

The leaders claimed the government was planning an operation in Wadh similar to Dera Bugti, reports Dawn News.

Khuzdar, Kalat, Noshki, Lasbela, Sibi, Dera Murad Jamali, Panjgur, Turbat, Kohlu and Loralai regions of the country witnessed protests.

Meanwhile, Wadh witnessed gunfight between the two rival groups of Mengal tribe on Thursday.

The exchange of fire continued between armed men who had been positioned in the trenches for over one and a half months, resulting in at least three fatalities and around a dozen injuries, Dawn News reported.

Security forces are attempting a ceasefire with the assistance of tribal elders.

Earlier in late July, a reconciliation jirga, led by Nawab Aslam Raisani, the chief of the Sarwan tribe, mediated a ceasefire between the warring factions, bringing an end to clashes that had kept the town tense, reported Dawn News.

Both groups broke the ceasefire within weeks.
