Durga Puja festivity reaches crescendo on Maha Navami

Kolkata: Durga Puja celebrations reached its peak on Monday as people set out early on the streets of Kolkata on Maha Navami, to make the most of the penultimate day of the four-day festival.

Despite rains, large number of people were seen hopping from one pandal to another in the morning.

The Nabopotrika was worshiped along with Noibiddo and flowers.

Special Navami aarti was also performed to worship the deity.

With just one day left in the greatest annual celebrations of the Bengalis, Kolkata is all set for a crowded and busy evening amid all glamour and glitterati.

Indian PM Narendra Modi greeted the nation on the day and tweeted: "World over, Durga Puja festivities are taking place with full vigour. Greetings to everyone on this special occasion. Maa Durga epitomises strength, courage and compassion. We seek her blessings for the well-being of our society."

West Bengal CM Mamata Banerjee said: "Greetings to all on the occasion of Maha Nabami."
