Dwijing River Festival begins in Assam

Guwahati, Dec 28 (IBNS): The Dwijing River Festival began at the Aie River Park, Hagrama Bridge in Assam’s Chirang district on Friday.

The 3rd edition of the festival was inaugurated by Assam minister Rihon Daimary. He said the festival has set a benchmark for itself.

“We have people coming from all parts of the country as well as from abroad.  In the coming years, we aim to make this festival and Aie River a tourist hub for the nation,” the Assam minister said.

Gautam Talukdar -Deputy Commissioner, Chirang District cum President Dwijing Festival 2018-19 hoisted the flag of the event.

The festival will continue till January 7.

The day began with a marathon race from Chapaguri to AIE River which was flagged off by International Boxer and Arjuna awardee L.Sarita Devi.

It was followed by the inauguration of Food stalls by Assam tourism minister Chandan Brahma.

The day also witnessed the opening of Bodo Traditional House, Book stalls, Traditional stage, Adventure Sports, Dwijing Night camp, Demonstration and opening of Rifle Shooting, Jeep and Elephant Safari, among others.

The second half of the day witnessed cultural programmes by various tribes, a fireworks show, performance of Bangladesh cultural troops, singer Anaya Brahma and popular singer Kailash Kher.
