After Mamata Banerjee, now Mayawati skips Opposition meet on CAA-NRC

Lucknow/New Delhi/IBNS: After West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee, Bahujan Samaj Party (BSP) supremo Mayawati said she will skip the Opposition meet on Citizenship (Amendment) Act (CAA) and National Register of Citizens (NRC) taking place on Monday.

Boycotting the meeting called by Congress interim president Sonia Gandhi, Mayawati tweeted, "Even after supporting the Rajasthan government, the Congress' act of defecting our party members is nothing short of betrayal."

"So attending the Congress' meeting will only demoralise the BSP leaders. So we will not be present in the meeting today," said the former Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister.

The Aam Aadmi Party (AAP), which will go to Delhi assembly elections in February, will also reportedly skip the meeting.

Despite spearheading the anti-CAA, anti-National Register of Citizens (NRC) protests in West Bengal, Banerjee is skipping the meeting over the Left-Congress' "violence in the name of protests" during the Bharat Bandh on Jan 8.

In the meeting, the Opposition will decide a strategy to protest against the CAA, NRC and National Population Register (NPR).
