Alert sounded along Indo-Myanmar border as 100 militants take shelter to carry out attacks

Guwahati, May 4 (IBNS) : Security has been beefed up along the Indo-Myanmar border following intelligence reports about probable militant attacks on security forces.

Intelligence Bureau (IB) reports said that more than 100 militants of ULFA (I), NSCN (K) and UNLF with huge quantity of sophisticated weapons and explosives have taken shelter along the Indo-Myanmar border with Arunachal Pradesh, Nagaland and Manipur, waiting to sneak into the north eastern region.

A top IB source said t the outlawed groups of North East India led by ULFA (I) and NSCN (K) have planned to conduct massive attacks on security personnel in the region.

"The militants, equipped with huge quantity of sophisticated weapons and explosives are trying to enter into the north eastern region," the source said.

Following the IB inputs, the Union Home Ministry y has asked  security forces and agencies to beef up security along the international border with Myanmar and to launch massive operations against  militants.

In the  past six months, the region witnessed several militant attacks on security forces.

Meanwhile, the Assam police has sounded high alert in all five districts in upper Assam.

A top official of Assam police said an alert has been issued against probable militant attacks in upper Assam.

"We have ordered all police stations and head quarters to take appropriate measures and to launch massive operations against the militants in all probable areas.  We have also  asked to identify the ways such attacks could be carried out," the top  cop said.
