Fake PMO official, armed ‘bodyguard’ detained ahead of PM Modi’s Mumbai event
Mumbai/IBNS: Two men were detained in Mumbai after one allegedly posed as a Prime Minister’s Office (PMO) official and entered a high-security area with a forged identity card, hours before Prime Minister Narendra Modi was due to attend an event in the city.
The incident took place near the Nita Mukesh Ambani Cultural Centre in Bandra Kurla Complex (BKC), close to the Jio World Centre where Modi was scheduled to inaugurate the Global Fintech Fest 2026.
Police identified the alleged fake PMO official as Rohan Parekh.
A gun was reportedly recovered from the man accompanying him, who was allegedly presented as his bodyguard.
Fake PMO identity card raises security concerns
According to police, security personnel stopped and questioned the two men after examining the identity card produced by Parekh.
The card was allegedly found to be fake, following which the two men were detained.
The presence of a firearm with the alleged bodyguard has added another layer to the security concerns surrounding the incident, particularly given its proximity to the venue of a major event involving the Prime Minister.
Mumbai Crime Branch begins probe
The Mumbai Crime Branch is now investigating how the two suspects managed to reach the high-security area.
Investigators are also examining whether the alleged attempt to gain access using a forged PMO identity card and carrying a weapon had any connection with the Prime Minister's scheduled visit.
The circumstances surrounding the suspects' movements and their alleged credentials are expected to form part of the investigation.
PM to inaugurate Global Fintech Fest
Prime Minister Narendra Modi is scheduled to inaugurate the Global Fintech Fest 2026 at the Jio World Centre in BKC.
The Prime Minister is also expected to address a gathering during the event.
