Astana, Kazakhstan, June 9 (IBNS) : Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Friday met Chinese President Xi Jinping on the sidelines of the Shanghai Cooperation Organisation summit in Astana amid speculations over the future of bilateral relations between the two neighbouring Asian powers following growing differences over a host of issues.

"Met President Xi Jinping. We spoke about India-China relations and how to further improve ties," Modi posted on his twitter handle.

The issues plaguing the relationship between the two countries include China-Pakistan Economic Corridor and India's bid to enter the Nuclear Suppliers Group.

Modi  had earlier  met Kazakhstan President Nusrullah Nazarbayev. "Began my programmes in Astana with a productive meeting with President Nursultan Nazarbayev of Kazakhstan.," he tweeted.

They discussed "ways to expand bilateral ties," PMO said.

The PM had arrived  in the Kazakh capital  on Thursday on a two-day visit to attend the SCO summit where India and Pakistan will be inducted as full members of the bloc.
