Amit Shah visits Ganjam district of Odisha on Tuesday

Bhubaneswar, Jul 4 (IBNS): Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) national president Amit Shah is visiting the Ganjam district of Odisha on Tuesday as part of his countrywide tour to strengthen the party, according to media reports.

Shah arrived in Odisha on Monday for this three-day tour to the state.

Tuesday's visit is loaded with political significance, according to media reports, as the state's chief minister's constituency, Hinjili, is located in Ganjam district.

Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik of Odisha heads the ruling Biju Janata Dal (BJD).

The 147-seat Odisha assembly is scheduled to go to the polls in 2019.

Earlier, the BJP president paid floral tributes to the warriors of 'Paik Rebellion' in Odisha. The rebellion took place in 1817 against the East India Company.

"Paid floral tributes to the great warriors of the "Paik Rebellion", who fought against the East India Company's rule in Odisha in 1817," twweted Shah on Tuesday.

He also tweeted, "I bow to the sacrifice of our young karyakarta Chitrasen Jena who was killed during nagar panchayat elections in Odisha in Bada Pokharia."
