Arunachal Pradesh encounter: Hardcore militant killed, NSCN (K) hideout busted

Guwahati, Sept 4 (IBNS): A hardcore NSCN (K) militant was killed and another injured in a gun fight with security forces in Arunachal Pradesh’s Longding district along with Myanmar border on Monday, officials said.

Following intelligence input about presence of militants, Assam Rifles personnel launched a massive operation near Votnu village in Longding district on Monday morning.

Kohima based Defence PRO Colonel Chiranjeet Konwer said that, when the troops reached the remote jungle area, the militants started fire and bullets were exchanged.

“The security personnel retaliated with accurate fire, eliminated a hardcore militant and injured another one. Using the cover of dense vegetation and nalas, the remaining militants escaped. On searching the site, the troops located and destroyed a shelter being used as a temporary hideout,” Colonel Konwer said.

Security personnel recovered one AK47 with ammunition from the slain militant, who is yet to be identified.

A massive search operation has been launched in the area to capture the remaining militant.

This operation is a follow up to eliminate another NSCN (K) militant near Kunnu village on Sept 1.
