Assam: Over four lakh people affected by rain and flood, low-lying Kaziranga NP under water

Guwahati, Jul 6 (IBNS): Incessant rains have thrown life out of gear in almost 13 districts of Assam and nearly four lakh people are affected, the media reported on Thursday quoting official sources.

The water of the Brahmaputra is rising fast and others rivers are in spate too, media reports said. Ferry services along the Brahmaputra river have been suspended.

Low-lying areas of the Kaziranga National Park, a Unesco World Heritage Site, is under water, with animals at the mercy of the swirling waters.

Assam's Water Resource Minister Keshab Mahanta visited flood affected Nagaon and Morigaon districts, according to media reports on Thursday.

Separately, relief material were distributed at flood hit Majuli district in Assam, media reported.

Meanwhile tweeted Sashi Tharoor, author and MP, "Deeply concerned about situation inAssam. Trust Govt can take its eyes off Israel&attend to our citizens in distress."
