Bombay HC issues notice to BMC seeking reply on doc's death during deluge
The high court was hearing a plea against BMC and others in the matter of death of Amrapurkar, a noted gastroenterologist, who had fallen into an open manhole while wading through the water-logged streets near Elphinston Road station on Tuesday.
The PIL, filed by the Federation of Retail Traders Welfare Association, has claimed that the mishap occurred as there was no ‘Danger’ sign near the open manhole that could have alerted passersby and it is a gross negligence on part of the BMC.
Amarapurkar had gone missing after Tuesday's heavy downpour. His body was found two days later near the Worli seashore.
